We are also able to wash and treat your roof without walking on your roof which will prevent damage.

Roof Wash - Moss and Mould Treatment

Why Should I Clean My Roof?

Most people are not aware of the structural damage moss, mould and lichen can do to your roof. If left untreated, it will start to degrade your roof due to the caustic nature of mould spores and the moss and mould will cause excess water absorption to concrete and clay tile roofs degrading them faster. This will make you need to replace your roof 10 years earlier than if it were treated. Excess moisture inside your roof will cause premature rotting of your timber frame and can cause mould to grow inside your roof space.

Roof Washing vs Roof Treatments

The main difference between roof treatment and roof washing is that roof treatment will take up to 3-4 months to get your roof clean after that treatment has been applied. This is because after the moss and mould are killed, it is then dependent on the wind and rain to wash away the decaying moss and mould which is much more gentle on your roof.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the roof treatment take to work and remove the moss and mould?

A moss and mould roof treatment normally take around 16 weeks to remove the moss and mould off your roof. It will also keep it clean for 2 years post-treatment.

Can you treat a roof in wet weather, or does it have to be in dry weather?

No, a roof treatment must be done in dry weather and you must have 4 hours of dry weather after the treatment has been applied for it to work.

Will you walk on my roof to apply the treatment? I am worried that the tiles may break.

In most cases no we won't go on your roof, we can apply the treatment from the gutter line without stepping on the roof.

I am on tank water, is this safe to use on my roof?

Yes, but it's very important you disconnect your water tank and leave it disconnected for four good rainfalls of at least 40ml per rainfall to flush your gutters and pipes out before reconnecting and harvesting rainwater. A full roof wash maybe a better option for you if you have tank water. *Please ensure you disconnect the water tank before the Wash Rite franchise arrives.

How do I know if the roof treatment is working?

The moss, mould and lichen will change colour and turn either a white or pale-yellow colour. This shows it has died and over the coming weeks it will break down and flush off the roof with the wind and rain.

Is the roof treatment safe on all roofing materials?

Yes, our product is designed and manufactured to be applied to all roofing materials.

Does Wash Rite guarantee the product will work?

Yes, we guarantee all our services across New Zealand.

Can Wash Rite book my house in for a roof treatment every two years so I don't have to remember to do this myself?

Yes, speak to your local Wash Rite franchise and they can book your house in for a treatment every two years. We will send you an email and text reminder of when we will be coming.
